Viking Sea kick-started the cruise season in Tallinn

Cruise season in Tallinn started on April 26 when this year’s first cruise vessel Viking Sea called the Old City Harbour. The cruise season lasts until October 20 and brings with 341 cruise ship calls altogether more than 565,000 cruise tourists to the beautiful Estonian capital.

According to Port of Tallinn’s Commercial Officer Margus Vihman, the number of this year’s cruise ship calls will be record high and based on pre-bookings the number of passengers will be on a similar scale to the previous record-breaking year.

„The longest ship this season will be MSC Preziosa, which is 333.3 meters long and takes on board over 4,000 passengers. MSC Preziosa calls Tallinn for the first time this year. Most popular days this year in terms of passengers will be July 2 and July 12, when six cruise ships will be calling Tallinn simultaneously and bringing about 11,000 cruise tourists to our capital,“ described Vihman.

During this season, ten cruise ships call Tallinn for the first time. In total, 74 different cruise ships call Tallinn this season, including nine ships longer than 300 meters and five cruise ships smaller than 100 meters in length.

This year, Port of Tallinn’s Saaremaa Harbour will welcome nine cruise ships and 3,000 passengers. The cruise season in Saaremaa Harbour starts on June 3 and lasts until September 16. Saaremaa is Estonia’s biggest island and offers cruise tourists an exciting experience with pristine nature and historical sights.
