Port of Tallinn has to use digital technologies to raise competitiveness

Port of Tallinn needs to make more efficient use of new digital technologies to raise its international competitiveness, the newly-appointed board chairman of the Estonian state-owned port company Valdo Kalm says, write LETA/BNS.

"It is very important to be a modern port particularly in terms of technology. Digitalization of various processes is certainly one of the things that will help to make our work more effective and increase competitiveness at least relative to ports of other Baltic states," Kalm told BNS adding that his previous experience of the telecoms business is bound to come handy in this area.

In addition to increasing innovation and technological capability, Kalm attaches importance to marketing. "Right now Port of Tallinn looks to me like a dynamic modern enterprise.

Development has been strong, but we're certainly able to market ourselves better primarily in order to enhance our reputation," he said.

The supervisory board of Port of Tallinn on Thursday elected Kalm the new chairman of the management board. Kalm will take up the appointment on March 1.

Kalm worked in different capacities for Eesti Telekom and its predecessors since 1986, sat on its board from 1997 onwards and was chairman of the board in 2007-2015. His last major task as Eesti Telekom CEO was integration of EMT and Elion into today's Eesti Telekom.
