EVR Cargo Volume Higher Than in July

Estonian state-owned railway transport company EVR Cargo posted a cargo transport volume of 1.12 million tonnes in August 2013.

The cargo volume was by 4% higher than in July and by 2% higher than in June though.

EVR Cargo board caiman Ahto Altjõe said that the August result was the best of the past three months but it would be too premature to present an optimistic forecast for the autumn yet. "Yet we expect in the coming months a certain increase of transport volumes of liquid fuel, which annually peaks in the last and first quarters of the year. Also the general situation at the market is improving, which is characterised for example by the more actively utilised railcar fleet of EVR Cargo and the good August result of the Russian Railways," said Altjõe.

In August, mineral liquid fuel transport formed 424,000 tonnes, fertilisers 265,000 tonnes, oil shale 185,000 tonnes, chemical goods 86,000 tonnes and solid bulk goods 63,000 tonnes. In August, EVR Cargo transported 4,258 container units.

EVR Cargo has transported 10.61 million tonnes of cargo in the first eight months of this year, which is by 18% less than at the same time last year.
