EVR Cargo’s freight volume reached over 1 million tons in November

Estonian state-owned rail freight operator EVR Cargo’s freight volume reached 1.033 million tons in November, reaching the highest level in the past eight months but still staying 37 per cent below last year’s result. The total volume of goods hauled in the first eleven months of the year reached 10.7 million tons, staying 25 per cent below last year’s first eleven months’ volume.

EVR Cargo’s acting chairman of the board Paul Lukka said that even though the freight volume of fertilisers increased by 25 per cent in November, this was not sufficient for compensating for the nearly 50 per cent reduction in the freight volume of mineral fuels. “We are expecting EVR Cargo’s monthly freight volumes to remain above one million tons in the coming winter months as well,” noted Lukka.

The overall volume of fertilisers in November increased by 26 per cent year-on-year, reaching 391 thousand tons. Mineral liquid fuel volumes decreased by 50 per cent to 302 thousand tons. Dry bulk cargo volumes dropped by 69 per cent to 99 thousand tons. Oil shale volumes were down by 45 per cent, reaching 129 thousand tons. Container traffic volumes dropped by 49 per cent to 2963 TEUs in November.

The largest trade partner for EVR Cargo in November was Russia, where the total volume of goods exchanged reached 724 thousand tons. Russia was followed by Lithuania with 62 thousand tons, Latvia with 20 thousand tons, Belarus with 11 thousand tons and Kazakhstan with 6 thousand tons. Trade exchange with Ukraine increased to 4.7 thousand tons.

Transit freight volumes reached 695 thousand tons in November, forming 67 per cent of the total freight volume and decreasing by 30 per cent compared to November last year.

During the first eleven months of the year, EVR Cargo’s total freight volume has reached 10.7 million tons, dropping by 25 per cent compared to last year. The volume of mineral liquid fuels decreased by 39 per cent to 3.45 million tons. The volume of fertilisers has increased by 10 per cent to 3.39 million tons. The freight volume of chemical goods has reduced by 14 per cent to 964 thousand tons, the volume of oil shale transport has dropped by 35 per cent to 1.55 million tons and the volume of dry bulk cargo by 47 per cent to 351 thousand tons. Container volumes reached 42 386 TEUs in the first eleven months, down by 41 per cent from last year.
