Eesti Raudtee signs EUR 3.7 mln agreement on extension of contact network

Estonian state-owned railway infrastructure company Eesti Raudtee has signed a 3.7-million-euro contract with the Spanish companies Ardanuy Ingeneria S.A. and Ayesa Ingenieria y Arquitectura on the provision of the technical solution and preliminary designs of extensions to the electric traction contact network in Estonia, informs LETA/BNS.

The international tender aimed at finding a partner for the electrification of the railway infrastructure was announced by Eesti Raudtee in May of this year. The tender attracted great interest and, in the first stage, in the course of which the prior experience of potential tenderers was assessed, applications to participate were filed by companies from several countries.

Companies from Finland, Germany and Spain were shortlisted for the second round. The contract with the Spanish tenderers that made the best offer was signed in the second half of October.

Andrus Alasi, head of electrical networks at Eesti Raudtee, described Ardanuy Ingeneria S.A. as a renowned expert in our region, which has made its contribution also to the preparation of the Rail Baltic project and has served as partner to the state railway company of Lithuania.

The first of the activities to be performed under the contract is the provision of the technical solution for the entire railway track to be electrified. That will be followed by the preparation of the preliminary design for the Aegviidu-Tapa-Tartu track section, which must be ready by the beginning of 2022.

The first major target of the electrification project is completion of the electric traction contact network in the Aegviidu-Tapa-Tartu section by the end of 2024, in line with the recently concluded contract for the acquisition of new electric trains by the state-owned passenger carrier Elron. The entire project in the electrification of the railway is to be completed at the end of 2028 at the latest.
