The length of national roads as of January 1, 2014 is 16 489 kilometres, i.e. 28.0% of the total length of the Estonian road network, which is 58 787 kilometres.
In 2013 31.1 million tons of goods out of which 17.81% was international transportation were shipped by road transport.
The majority of cargoes is transported by road transport from Estonia to the neighboring countries – Russia, Latvia and Finland. The majority of cargoes to Estonia are delivered from Finland, Latvia and Russia.
The activities of the road transport are within jurisdiction of the Ministry of Economy and Communications within the framework of administration of the Estonian Road Administration, ERA. The main part of trucking companies are the members of the Association of International Trucking of Estonia (ERAA).
