Reputable Seatrade Insider nominated Port of Tallinn as Port of the Year finalistOne of the highest accolades in the cruise industry Seatrade Insider nominated Port of Tallinn as one of the three finalists for the title Port of the Year; the other two finalists are Copenhagen Malmo Port and Istanbul Port. For giving out the Port of the Year title the jury of Seatrade Insider Cruise Awards will mostly evaluate the development of the port complex during the past twelve years. “The traditional port activity will be evaluated, but also remarkable infrastructure improvements that have been made during the past year in the cruise and tourism sector will be taken into account,” described Port of Tallinn’s Chairman of the Management Board Ain Kaljurand the requirements of the competition. According to Kaljurand, Port of Tallinn’s nomination is mostly based on building the new cruise quay that was opened in May and was the largest single investment of last year costing up to ten million euros. „With the help of this investment we will on one side satisfy the growing demand for Tallinn as a cruise destination but also cruise operators’ request to use larger vessels at the Baltic Sea,“ said Kaljurand.
In addition to developing port’s infrastructure with building the new quay other activities also supported Port of Tallinn’s nomination as Port of the Year finalist. „This cruise season we also opened a unique ballooning attraction called Balloon Tallinn, which enables people to enjoy beautiful panoramic views of Tallinn from 120 meters from the ground. At our cruise territory we have also renewed tourists’ shopping area, where we offer best souvenirs, Estonian design products, traditional Estonian handicraft and also local food products,“ added Kaljurand.
Seatrade Insider Cruise Awards is an international competition, where both ports and port complexes are participating but also different maritime and marine tourism companies and operators. In addition to Port of the Year title the competition includes four more categories – Destination of the Year, Supplier of the Year, Environmental Initiative Award and Innovative Shorex of the Year Award.
Judged by an independent panel of experienced cruise industry specialists, the Seatrade Insider Cruise Awards is one of the highest accolades in the cruise industry. This year the winners will be presented in Barcelona at the Seatrade Med Party on Wednesday 17 September.
