Number of Tallinn Port passengers up 13% in March y-o-y

Altogether 741,099 passengers passed through the ports of Estonia's state-owned Port of Tallinn in March 2016, 13.3% more than in March 2015 and the biggest number of all time for March, reports LETA/BNS.

As usual, the number of passengers was the biggest on the Tallinn-Helsinki route, 651,195, and passengers of that route accounted for 87% of the total number of passengers. Passengers traveling between Tallinn and Stockholm numbered 81,757, making up 12% of the total passenger number, and passengers on the Tallinn-St. Petersburg route 8,011, making up 1% of the total, the port company said.

The listed Estonian shipper Tallink Grupp served 64%, the Finnish shippers Viking Line and Eckero Line respectively 20% and 15%, and St. Peterline 1% of passengers in January.

Of ships, Tallink's Star carried 152,403 passengers, followed by Viking Line's Viking XPRS, which carried 145,836 passengers, and Eckero Line's Finlandia as third with 122,075 passengers. All the ships ply the Tallinn-Helsinki route.

The ports received 428 visits by passenger ships during the month.
