The Thematic Plan of the LNG Terminal at the Muuga Harbour Approved

The Council of the Jõelähtme Rural Municipality has approved the thematic plan of the Tallinn LNG terminal to be situated at the Muuga harbour.

The thematic plan “Site selection for the LNG terminal” covers a plot of 300 hectares in the eastern part of the Muuga Harbour. The Council requested for a strategic environmental impact assessment to be conducted in order to determine the probable environmental impact of the future terminal.

AS Elering, the Port of Tallinn, and Vopak LNG, a subsidiary of Royal Vopak, one of the world's biggest liquid bulk terminal operators, signed a memorandum of understanding with an aim to ascertain the possibility of building a LNG terminal at the Muuga Harbour.

During the first stage of the project, the research will be conducted in order to assess the suitability of the project for a terminal indended to be the supplier for all the Baltic States as well as Finland.
