Estonia could be the maritime portal for Kazakhstan

Today on 14 February, 2011, the members of the Estonian Logistics Cluster introduced the advantages of Estonia’s logistic location at the Estonian-Kazakhstan Business Forum and proposed initiatives and opportunities for cooperation to Kazakhs.

According to Mr. Juhan Parts, the Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications, participating in the 2nd session of the intergovernmental committee of Estonia and Kazakhstan, Estonia could be the maritime portal into the rest of the world for Kazakhstan.

In contrast to the competing transport corridors, Estonia is able to provide Kazakhstan lower logistics rates per ton of the goods carried. The Port of Tallinn is prepared to seek investment options to set up a terminal or distribution centre for Kazakhstan cargo.

Mr. Ain Kaljurand from the Port of Tallinn, Mr. Kaido Simmermann from the Estonian Railways, Mr. Tiit Vähi from the Port of Sillamäe, Mr. Erik Sakkov from the Tallinn Airport, and Mr. Arnout Lugtmeijer from Vopak EOS introduced the cooperation opportunities at the Business Forum, where a total of 150 Kazakhstan business leaders together with the heads of Estonian logistics and transportation companies participated.
