Estonia's Port of Tallinn sees passenger numbers grow 2.3% to 9.79 mln in 2015

Ports of Estonia's state-owned company Port of Tallinn served a record 9.79 million passengers last year, 2.3% more than the year before, writes LETA/BNS.

The most popular route was between Tallinn and Helsinki which served a total of 8.21 million passengers or 84% of all passengers served by the company in 2015. The number of passengers who used the route increased by 2.8% on year, spokespeople for the company said.

Passengers traveling on the Tallinn-Stockholm route numbered 948,951 which is about the same number as last year, and passengers to and from St. Petersburg numbered 124,639 -- down by 15.2%. Cruise boats brought 504,245 tourists to Estonia or 3.6% more than in 2014, the company said.

In December 768,858 passengers passed through the ports managed by Port of Tallinn, 7.1% more than during the same month of the previous year.

During the month 410 and during the year 5,397 passenger ships called at the ports of the Port of Tallinn.

The port operator expects passenger number to total 9.95 mln. in 2015.
