Estonian Railways: railcars, departures to be added for Christmas on Russian route

The state-owned Estonian railway infrastructure company Estonian Railways (Eesti Raudtee) said that due to the great demand of Russian tourists the number of railcars on Russian routes is to double and departures will be added during the Christmas period, informs LETA/BNS.

The interest of Russian tourists in visiting Tallinn is continuing to grow. Additional railcars and departures for the Tallinn-St. Petersburg-Moscow train have been planned for this year's holiday period and New Year's Eve so that there would be tickets available for all those interested, Estonian Railways said.

A total of seven railcars have usually been in use on the Moscow-Tallinn route, but from Dec. 22 to Jan. 10, the number of railcars will be increased to up to 15 and an additional departure from Moscow will be added to the schedule on Dec. 30 and Jan. 2. This number of railcars enables for up to 550 passengers to come to Estonia on one train.

"We are glad to acknowledge that the number of passengers from Russia is continuing to grow and the first ten days of December already indicate a 20 percent increase compared to the same period last year. This is why two additional departures have been planned and the number of railcars will be doubled," head of communications at Estonian Railways Monika Kaljusaar said.
