Altogether 10.3 mln tons of freight was transported on the infrastructure of the Estonian Railways in the first 10 months of 2016

Altogether 10.3 mln tons of freight was transported on the infrastructure of the state-owned Estonian railway infrastructure company Eesti Raudtee (Estonian Railways) in the first 10 months of 2016 or 19.6 % less than in the same period a year ago, reports LETA/BNS.

In October freight carriage totaled 920,000 tons, told Estonian Railways spokesperson Liina Hallik. The biggest freight group was fertilizers, the shipment of which grew 10% to 3.3 mln tons. The biggest decline in the 10-month period was recorded in the shipment oil and oil products where carriage dropped 51% to 3.1 mln tons. The shipment of oil shale grew by 14.6% to 1.6 mln tons and the shipment of chemical goods by 9.3% to 950,000 tons.

Transit shipments fell 28.3 % to 6.7 mln tons, while local shipments grew 4.6% to 2.2 mln tons. Import and export shipments meanwhile remained on the same level as last year, totaling 1.4 mln tons.
